Patong Beach,8 Kms. west of town, is large and gently sloping,making it ideal for children. Surin Beach,23 kms.north of town,is large and gently sloping,making it ideal making it especially dangerous during monsoon season. There is a 9-hole golf course at Surin and it is the best place to enjoy Phuket's sunset. Nai Yang or AirportBeach,3kms. past the airport,is well shaded by tall pine trees and is ideal for swimming and relaxation. It offers good snorkeling among sea anemones and fish traps. North of Nai Yang, stretches Mai Khao (white wood) Beach,Phuket's longest. Each year from December to February,giant sea turtles lumber ashore at Mai Khao to lay eggs which are prized delicacies.
At Koh Sireh,there is a sea gypsy village,whose people are called " Chao Lay" or "Sea Tribes". Near the sea gypsy village,up 439-fitness testing,steps,Wat Koh Sireh affords a good view of Phuket town,Laem Nga Bay Saphan Pla (where boats helps create the peaceful atmosphere of the temple.
In the quiet,sheltered waters of Phuket's east coast are half a dozen pearl farms. All but one of these grow 'mabe' or half pearls. You can visit the farms where half pearls are cultivated. South Sea pearls--and that is what they grow on Koh Nakha Noi--can be worth thousands of dollars each.
